Porcelain manufacturing: The manufacturing process at the Revol factory

0

Porcelain dishes and objects often take on a decorative dimension in addition to their main function. In the quest for beauty, functionality and durability, this noble and natural material offers undeniable guarantees and advantages.

A benchmark in its sector, the French company Revol is constantly pushing back borders and inspirations to offer exceptional culinary creations. An endless narrative material, ceramics are constantly reinventing themselves thanks to the expert gestures of skilled Revol workers.

Raw materials: the start of the process

Revol has been passionately manufacturing its own clay and its enamels for more than 250 years, allowing the manufacturer to better adapt it to the different manufacturing processes.

The ingredients are essential to the high quality of the products and are all carefully chosen by Revol. The selected materials are then delivered to the clay and enamel preparation site located near the Saint-Uze factory in Drôme in the South of France.

Clay, quartz, feldspar and kaolin are carefully combined in a unique composition called “slip”. Revol porcelain is made from 100% natural minerals.

Most of these natural materials come from France and sometimes from Europe. Quartz, for example, comes from only a few kilometers from the Drôme factory.

Revol is one of the last porcelain manufacturers in France, and one of the few in the world, to make its own clay!

The different stages of production: Reaching the final product

To guarantee constant quality that meets the expectations of professionals and individuals alike, Revol masters all stages of porcelain manufacturing, from the choice of raw materials to firing, to finishing.

After selecting the raw materials, the manufacturer will grind them to produce the different pastes. Last year, Revol even created a new clay based on recycled ceramics and enamels, used for the No.W collection, eco-designed and sustainable. Next is the manufacture of the molds: the factory itself designs and creates new molds or uses existing ones.

Once the part is molded and glazed, it must be baked for eight hours at a very high temperature (1320 ° C / 2408 ° F), which makes Revol porcelain 100% non-porous.

The last step is the decoration of the final product! Three techniques are used: decals, spray decorations or brushes.

In the Revol factory, quality control is carried out at each stage of production.
